SELF-CARE BEHAVIORS OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

The objectives of this research article are to study the self-care health behaviors of patients with chronic kidney disease responsible by Chamrae Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province.This research is a descriptive research. The sample group is the population of CKD patients receiving care at Chamrae Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital in 2019 was 100 people in total. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was divided into 2 parts: part 1 consists of personal characteristics of patients with CKD, part 2 consists of self-care health behaviors of patients with CKD with measured on 3 aspects: controlling diet, doing exercise, and taking medication. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of questionnaire was 0.82. Mean and standard deviation were used in data analysis.
The results showed that: The overall self-care health behavior of patients with CKD, from the full score of 3, found that controlling diet and doing exercise were at moderate levels ( = 2.15 and 1.96, SD = .23 and .70) but taking medication was at a good level, ( = 2.61, SD = .23) indicating that patients with CKD have self-care health behavior in terms of awareness for taking medicine on basis of their diseases. However, taking medicine within half an hour before and after meals does not meet the recommendations. The patients with CKD in this study revealed a lack of regular exercise and still drinking alcohol and smoking without control.
Conclusions: This study would be helpful for healthcare providers to gain the information to implement the project intervention for patients with CKD responsible by Chamrae Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province in order to decrease of kidney failure. The results could be applied to other health promoting hospitals to improve better quality of life for patients with CKD.
