This is a qualitative research study, with key informants selected through purposive sampling, comprising 16 individuals including the elderly, village health volunteers, community leaders, and government officials. Data was collected through in-depth interviews in the field, and the information gathered was summarized based on key questions, analyzed for content, and presented in accordance with the research objectives.
The research findings reveal that physical changes due to deterioration, health issues, and mental shifts associated with aging affect the overall condition of the elderly. The study identified different groups of elderly people: those who do not require assistance from others, those who rely on family members, those who depend on others, and those who need special care. The mental health status of the elderly in Bang Krathuek Subdistrict was generally found to be good, with family members providing care and attention. However, they also desire recognition from others and expect support from government agencies. Recommendations for improving the mental health of the elderly in Bang Krathuek Subdistrict include the following: government agencies should implement programs that are more accessible and beneficial to the elderly. Assistance should be comprehensive, and there should be social activities that involve both the community and local administration to foster relationships between the elderly and the community. Additionally, dissemination of useful information to improve the quality of life for the elderly should be encouraged.
