Abstract

The objectives of this research article are as follows: 1) to study the lifestyle and quality of life for the elderly; 2) to examine learning activities to enhance the quality of life for the elderly, and 3) to analyze learning factors to enhance the quality of life for the elderly in Ratchaburi Province. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies, utilizing the concept of quality-of-life development in four aspects and learning factors to enhance the quality of life for the elderly as its research framework. The primary research tool employed was a questionnaire. The sample group was 372 elderly people selected by simple random sampling and structured interviews. Additionally, key informants included fifteen agency executives and organizations related to the elderly, selected through purposive sampling.  Quantitative data were analyzed by basic statistics, while for qualitative research, content was synthesized and descriptive reports were written. The research results were as follows:

  1. Lifestyle and quality of life for the elderly in Ratchaburi Province were characterized by their deep-rooted connection to the area, having been born and raised there. They possessed a unique identity, pursued careers, earned income, and were self-sufficient. Moreover, they had access to caregivers and support and maintained both physical and mental well-being. They also enjoyed good social relationships and resided in suitable living environments.
  2. The development of learning activities to enhance the quality of life for the elderly in Ratchaburi Province encompassed various domains, including physical, mental, social, and environmental learning.
  3. Learning factors to enhance the quality of life for the elderly in Ratchaburi Province comprised aspects related to the elderly themselves, organizational factors, social institutional factors, environmental factors, and management concerns.

The body of knowledge gained from this research holds valuable implications for government agencies and the private sector, enabling them to formulate policies that promote the development of learning activities and leverage this development to enhance the quality of life for the elderly.
