BLACK MAGIC: THE PHENOMENA OF BELIEFIN LOCAL NAKHON SI THAMMARAT PROVINCE

The main goals of the current study, "Belief in Black Magic: A Phenomenological Investigation in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province," were to examine the theories and concepts of witchcraft, investigate the symbolic meaning attached to such practices, examine the phenomenon of belief in witchcraft within the local community of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and add to the body of knowledge on witchcraft and local beliefs. This qualitative research used a data analysis strategy that included an examination of pertinent materials and previous scholarship, eight in-depth interviews, and a focus group with a total of 16 participants.
Several key findings emerged from the current study's findings. First, research into witchcraft notions and theories revealed that it is a holy activity with profound origins in ancient beliefs. Its significance in Buddhism relates to religious devotion and acts as a source of motivation for people from all walks of life to face daily problems calmly. Second, an examination of the code of moral principles contained inside magic spells found that Buddhist teachings were interwoven to inculcate faith in the efficacy of witchcraft and Buddhist mantras for alchemical success. The recitation and whispering of magical spells were regarded as a technique of promoting physical and mental well-being, and regular prayers were regarded as necessary for a happy and satisfied existence. Third, the study of the phenomena of witchcraft belief highlighted its contribution to establishing a feeling of community and giving people a source of inspiration and drive to face everyday difficulties. Furthermore, it was discovered that the knowledge derived from such beliefs improved both socialization and quality of life. Fourth, the study uncovered a thorough body of information about witchcraft, occurrences, and beliefs in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat's emerging community. It was discovered that witchcraft was linked to the cure of diseases, wealth, invincibility, and mercy and compassion.
Overall, the study highlights the dynamic nature of witchcraft as a means of filtering behavior and daily life practices in Nakhon Si Thammarat province and proposes a model for understanding its role as a means of promoting physical, emotional, and social well-being (B.M.M.S. Model, with B referring to the body, M to the mind and mood, and S to society and socialization).
