Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the concept of astrology in Theravda Buddhist scriptures and modern astrology in the Theravda Buddhist dimension. The research utilizes a qualitative method and collects data through documentary review and in-depth interviews.

The finding revealed that Buddhism emphasizes the truth that arises from karma and action. According to Buddhist perspectives on astrology, it is a matter of foreseeing events by relying on the stars—things outside of one's control—to avoid negative consequences, as well as an unreasonable act and reflecting that human beings seek liberation from suffering in order to be happy. However, from a Buddhist perspective, achieving ultimate happiness necessitates a learning process involving self-development and practice following the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. In addition, Buddhist astrology emphasizes the significance of the individual in the Four Noble Truths process by encouraging service recipients to engage in the truth of suffering (Dukkha) in self-assessment, find the real cause of suffering (Samudaya), believe in and work to develop oneself (Nirodha) to overcome current and future challenges through the path that leads to liberation from suffering (Magga), as well as comprehend the truth of suffering according to the Buddha's teachings.

Modern Buddhist astrology focuses on the individual following the Four Noble Truths approach to developing the person's potential to accept, investigate, diagnose, and accept changes in themselves and others, including the current societal context, based on the astrologer's and counselor's friendliness (Kalayanamitta) with intellectual, moral, social, ethical, and mental qualities appropriate for the problem of counseling to achieve happiness in living in the present
