Policy on the Development of Public Space for the Benefit of the Elderly Service in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office, Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: 1) study level of effectiveness on the development of public space for the benefit of the elderly service in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office, Bangkok: 2) to study factors affecting effectiveness on the development of public space for the benefit of the elderly service in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office, Bangkok: and 3) to suggest a suitable approach of policy on the development of public space for the benefit of the elderly service in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office, Bangkok. This research was a qualitative research by in-depth interviews with 25 key informants including government sector, private sector and public sector then bring to systematic descriptive, rational, theoretical reference and proceeding to organize information. The results indicated that: 1) public space was an important element of a city that promotes quality of life and caters to diverse needs, consistent and appropriate adjustments were needed to enable the elderly to use the space safely and interact socially. This was a reflection the policy of development of public space for the benefit of the elderly service: 2) the development of public space for the benefit of the elderly service in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office, Bangkok. The findings consisted of several factors including (1) the physical public space, (2) the scope of service, (3) inside comfort, (4) the image of the area, (5) the sense of place, (6) the social space, and (7) design guidelines for a response to the behavior of the elderly: and 3) guidelines for development of public space for the elderly service by creating a plan integrated with other relevant agencies in a systematic way to develop appropriate improvements to ensure safety for the most effective elderly services.
