Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the causal factors of responsible and respect behavior development; 2) to study at-risk groups and protection factors; and 3) to establish and examine a causal relationship model of students’ responsibility and respectfulness. This research uses a quantitative research method. The sample group was dual vocational students. The sample size was 594, selected via multistage randomization. The research instruments were 13 variable measurements. They resemble a total assessment measure. The item total correlation were .411 to .862, coefficient alpha reliability (a) of .848 to .940. The statistics used to analyze the data to test the hypothesis were multiple regression analysis, t-test and path analysis.

The results of the research showed that: 1) three groups of causal factors together explained 54.0% variance of the students responsibility and the respectfulness, all of the variable groups could explain students behavior by 57.1%. 2) Only one at-risk group with regard to responsible behavior was identified, namely young students (15-17 years old), and there are five variables that function as protective factors for the at-risk group, namely, internal locus of control on responsibility and respectfulness, close people role model, attitudes towards responsibility and respectfulness behavior, family rearing practice, and Moral reasoning and 3) a causal relationship model of responsibility and respectfulness of dual vocational students consistent with empirical data which explains 95.2% of the variance. The results of this research are beneficial to administrators and those involved in the development of the attributes on responsibility and respectfulness in students.
