Factors Affecting Attitudes and Safety Behavior of Not Wearing a Helmet of Foreigners. A Case Study of Samut Sakhon Province

Abstract

This thesis is a study aims to 1) study the problems and obstacles not wearing a helmet for foreigners, 2) to study the limitations on attitudes and safety not wearing a helmet for foreigners, and 3) study the guidelines for wearing a helmet for foreigners. A case study was carried out on 10 to government officials and 20 foreign workers by an in-depth interview in Samut Sakhon province. The study has found that the factors which prevent foreigners from wearing helmets were carelessness and lack of respect toward the law. They were ignorant toward penalties, regardless of security, and imitation behavior. Due to high cost of a helmet,

causing an influence toward foreigners’ attitudes and behaviors of safety. Furthermore, the study

discovered that most of foreigners tend to have low income and because that they have to send money to their families. Also, they said they wearing a helmet caused uncomfort, hair damage, afraid of lost, difficult to carry, etc. When foreigners rode up to a checkpoint, they seemed to escape immediately because they weren’ t afraid of being arrested by the police. According to the study, they were guidelines for foreigners to were helmet, including 1) Providing and organizing campaign activities. 2) Create social media such as brochures and short video to show how it could be of not wearing a helmet when an accident occurs. 3) Provide knowledge about traffic laws and regulations. 4) Serious law enforcement, and 5) To continuously conduct helmet selling survey in the area.
