Purpose of the study: This investigation focuses on the design and development of digital database of the digital knowledge of the ethnic groups in Thailand.
Methodology: This research and development (R & D) study starting with the design and system development based on a system development life cycle (SDLC) approach is divided into 5 stages: 1) collecting data on related knowledge from various accessible information resources based on the data structure of the ethnic groups using a systematic record-keeping forms 2) examining and analyzing the database users’ needs 3) designing the data structure and use functionality 4) system developing and testing and 5) evaluating the system effectiveness by information system experts.
Main findings: The database system storing digital information on the hill tribes in Thailand is the information system which provides basic knowledge about the ethnic minorities in the country. It is consisted of several sub systems: 1) management of information 2) data retrieval (key words and browsing forms) and 3) information display. In addition, many related key words in the system can be systematically linked. From the system evaluation and its effectiveness testing, it is found that the system contents, design and use functions are appropriate with the IOC = 0.84, 0.80, and 0.92 respectively.
Applications of the study: This research gives contributions to the teaching and learning of those who wish to gain more knowledge in the ethnic minorities in Thailand. Moreover, it can be used for developing a digital library and a semantic search system.
