Abstract

Purpose of the study:  This study intends to 1) create a spatial database containing community product data for promoting tourism in Chaloem Phra Kiat District of Nakhon Ratchasima province, and 2) design and prepare a tourism route map by connecting areas adjacent to the district to foster the touristic community.

Methodology: Spatial and descriptive data were collected by GIS, while the tourism location data were gathered using satellite navigation system. The collected data were used to develop the spatial database containing community product data, natural tourism locations and community learning center data for improving the quality of agricultural production. Also the collected data were used to design and presented in the form of the community tourism route map.

Main findings: The study results indicated that the spatial database contained 3 classified data groups: community product data, learning center for agricultural product quality improvement data, and natural tourist location data describing geology, culture, and important government offices. The tourism route map of Chaloem Phra Kiat district provides different radius access among touristic sites depending on the distances of the locations. In addition, important touristic spots are located in 5 sub-districts which are accessible by 2 routes.

Applications of the study: This research makes contribution to tourism. Tourism operators and both private and government tourist agencies can apply the results of the study in the promotion of the community products based on the context suitability. Besides, the findings can be used as guidelines for promoting Geo-tourism and making it sustainable.
