State of Knowledge Sharing of Wood Carving of Knowledge Base: A Case Study of Bang Jang Nak Museum, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai

Abstract

This qualitative research focused on investigating current condition of sharing knowledge on wood carving at Ban Jang Nak Museum, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 9 people involving in wood carving. The findings revealed that these 9 wood carvers started learning wood carving from their personal preferences, on the job training under supervision of carving experts, and self practice. Knowledge sharing within the groups and outside the groups was organized through conversation and exchange of carving techniques. These respondents also provided training to student trainees and individuals who were interested in wood carving. Factors that impacted the wood carving knowledge sharing were knowledge recipients and the supports from government and private sectors. Besides, the data analysis indicated knowledge sharing barriers consisted of a number of current carving models, needs for training, and lack of publicity.
