บทคัดย่อ
บทความฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาผลกระทบจากการตั้งถิ่นฐานของชาวตะวันตก ซึ่งมีอิทธิพลต่อความหลากหลายของประชากรในจังหวัดภูเก็ต และเพื่อวิเคราะห์ความเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมวัฒนธรรม รวมถึงการเพิ่มขึ้นของความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมที่เป็นผลมาจากการเข้ามาตั้งถิ่นฐานของชาวตะวันตกในจังหวัดภูเก็ตในยุคของการท่องเที่ยว
การเข้ามาตั้งถิ่นฐานของชาวตะวันตกที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้นในจังหวัดภูเก็ตส่งผลให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมที่สำคัญในหลายมิติของจังหวัดภูเก็ต และทำให้กลายเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญด้านประชากรของจังหวัดภูเก็ตในปัจจุบัน ชาวตะวันตกที่เข้ามาตั้งถิ่นฐานในจังหวัดภูเก็ตมีหลายประเภท เช่น ผู้เกษียณอายุ นักลงทุน นักการทูต ชาวตะวันตกวัยหนุ่มสาวที่เข้ามาพักอาศัยระยะสั้น รวมถึงชาวตะวันตกที่มีคู่สมรสเป็นคนไทย ทำให้เกิดปรากฏการณ์คนรุ่นใหม่ที่เรียกว่า “ลูกครึ่งฝรั่ง” ซึ่งหมายถึงเด็กที่เกิดจากพ่อหรือแม่ที่เป็นคนไทยมาแต่งงานกับชาวตะวันตก ความโดดเด่นของลูกครึ่งไทย-จีนในยุคเหมืองแร่ เริ่มจะเปลี่ยนไปเป็นลูกครึ่งฝรั่งในยุคการท่องเที่ยว ความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมสะท้อนให้เห็นผ่านทางสถานที่ทางศาสนาและวัฒนธรรมหลายแห่งในจังหวัดภูเก็ต เช่น วัดของชาวพุทธ วัดของชาวซิกข์และฮินดู โบสถ์ สุเหร่า ศาลเจ้า นอกจากนี้ยังเห็นได้จากร้านอาหารที่มีความเป็นนานาชาติ ความหลากหลายทางภาษา ทำให้เกิดการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะระหว่างชาวตะวันตกและคนภูเก็ต ซึ่งเป็นปรากฏการณ์สำคัญที่เป็นผลมากจากการตั้งถิ่นฐานของชาวตะวันตกในจังหวัดภูเก็ตในยุคของการท่องเที่ยวในปัจจุบัน
