Strategies Used in Creation of Power Thai Expressions

Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to analyze origins of power in Thai expressions.The study was conducted in the qualitative design supported by numerical data, percentage. 7,936 epigrams having characteristic of power expressions were analyzed. The samples of 1,326 expression were selected by the purposive sampling method and analyzed by the principles of Michel Foucault. The results of the study showed 3 categories of power in Thai expressions including 1) 888 (66.96%) Thai expressions related to power in society  that can be categorized into 9 issues which were (1) careers, (2) communication, (3) transportation, (4) bribe, (5) persecution, (6) corruption, (7) Thai ways of life, (8) livelihood, and (9) life mottos; 2) 273 (20.58). Thai expression. related to power in cultures and traditions that can be categorized in to 6 issues which were (1) cultures and traditions, (2) religious believes, (3) superstition, (4) governance, (5) social stratification, and (6) rules of law; and 3) 165 (12.44%). Thai expressions related to power in people personalities that can be categorized into 2 issues which were (1) personalities and (2) social values.
