Community Waste Management Based on Cultural Capital of Isan Way: A Case Study of Ban Phue Municipality, Nong Ruea District, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

          This article aimed to study the waste management based on cultural capital  suitable for the community. This study adopted the method of qualitative research by interviewing a group of both formal and informal leaders, scholars in the community, representatives of households who participated in social activities and played a role in community waste management, interviewing relevant government officials, and conducting small group discussions to cooperatively analyze the potential, weaknesses and strengths of waste management of communities in the service area of ​​Ban Phue subdistrict Municipality, Nong Ruea District, Khon Kaen Province. The results of the study were found that the communities had applied the cultural capital, especially “Cultural Capital of Isan Way”, as a base for waste management in a way that helps support each other. The “Waste Cremation Fund” had become a driving mechanism and holistic community development in various fields. The strength of the community had been generated on the cultural capital foundation of Isan way. This had led to the community to have the power to negotiate with outsiders. In addition, in the community development process, participation has been created through various social activities. The results of this research obviously reflected the community waste management based on the cultural capital of Isan way.
