Data were collected using in-depth interview, participant observation and non-participant observation. The concepts of transnational network and transnational social space were applied. The results showed that Vietnamese people have travelled to Isan before 1946. In particular, the conflict between France and Siam became an important factor allowing Vietnamese people to come to Isan.
