THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL FOR ENHANCING THE TALENTED STUDENTS IN THAI CLASSICAL MUSIC

Abstract
The purposes of the study were (1) to develop the causal relationship model influencing the talented students in Thai classical music, (2) to develop the teaching methods in order to enhance the talented students in Thai classical music, and (3) to evaluate the teaching methods which are employed to enhance the talented students in Thai classical music. The sampling group of the participants was primary school students who had won the Thai classical music contest and obtained a gold medal. Such contest was held during the academic year 2017 by the Office of the Basic Education Committee (OBEC). Stratified random sampling was used for this study and the number of students was 774. Two instruments were used in this study: (1) Multiple-choice test and (2) Five-point rating scale questionnaire constructed by the researcher. Basic data of the sampling group were analysed by SPSS programme. The draft of the teaching methods for promoting students with Thai classical music talents was verified and analysed by using the Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and the causal relationship model influencing the talented students in Thai classical music was analysed by the Structural Equation Model and LISREL The results were as follows :
- The causal relationship model influenced the talented students in Thai classical music. The result indicated that the model was conformed to the empirical data in a good level. The test results of Chi-square showed (c2) = 181.60, the df Value = 103, p Value = 0.000, the CFI Value = 0.996, the RMSEA Value = 0.0314, the GFI Value = 0.973, and the χ2/df Value = 1.763. All variables in the model could explain the variance of Thai classical music talents with a percentage of 90.20 (R2 = 0.902). There was one factor directly influencing the students’ ability to perform Thai classical music that was the basic abilities of Thai classical music.
- The teaching model for promoting students' talents in Thai classical music consisted of 4 steps: (1) input factor describing family's roles, (2) process describing individuals' creativity and their basic abilities of Thai classical music, (3) output describing talents in Thai classical music, and (4) feedback describing no quality found from the production.
3. The results of evaluation on contribution, feasibility, and appropriateness of the teaching model was found that the IOC (Index of Item - Objective Congruence) done by experts was at 0.80 - 1.00 level, so the model can be used to instruct and teach students in order to promote their talents in Thai classical music.
