Feasibility study of using rice screening machine in household system

Abstract

The aim of this research was to the feasibility of using rice screening machine in household system and to study the appropriate wind speed for blowing impurities from the grain. Regarding this machine, the electric motor of 0.50 HP was used as the power equipment for driving fan shaft and sieve shaft. The sieves have 2 levels; the first level will separate the impurities that were large than the paddy seeds, and the second level was used to separate the impurities that were smaller than the paddy seed before the paddy flows into the support tray, Regarding the test, 1,000 gram of rice paddy was used with wind speed at 3.80, 4.20, 5.50, 6.30, 7.80 and 9.30 m/s. The results show that the appropriate wind speed was at 6.30 m/s and the efficiency of machine was at 87.98%. The average time to get rid of impurities was at 6.37 minutes, representing 9.41 kg/hr.
