“ดิฉัน (เมียฝรั่ง)ไม่ใช่โสเภณี”: ภาษากับอัตลักษณ์ ในวาทกรรมสาธารณะ

Abstract

“ดิฉันไม่ใช่โสเภณี” เป็นนวนิยายที่ผลิตขึ้นจากสังคมและวัฒนธรรมไทยในช่วงของการเคลื่อนย้ายฐานทัพทหารอเมริกาออกจากประเทศไทย ประกอบกับการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวและนโยบายเปิดประเทศเพื่อชดเชยจำนวนนักท่องเที่ยวที่หายไปกับการถอนฐานทัพ อีกทั้งแรงงานผู้หญิงได้เคลื่อนย้ายจากภาคการเกษตรสู่ภาคอุตสาหกรรมตามแผนนโยบายเศรษฐกิจ ปัจจัยทางสังคมเหล่านี้มีผลโดยทางอ้อมผ่านวิถีปฏิบัติของผู้คนในสังคมจนเกิดตัวบทวาทกรรมสาธารณะต่างๆ ขึ้นมา นวนิยายเรื่องนี้เช่นกันแม้เมียฝรั่งจะพยายามปฏิเสธว่าตนไม่ใช่โสเภณี แต่นวนิยายเรื่องนี้กลับ ยิ่งผลิตซ้ำตอกย้ำให้อัตลักษณ์เมียฝรั่ง มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับการเป็นโสเภณี การมีชีวิตที่ยากลำบาก การมีชีวิตที่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จกับสามีคนไทย และการถูกสังคมดูถูกรังเกียจ“Dichan (Mia Farang) Maichai Sopheni”: Language and Identity in Public Discourse

The sociocultural contexts that shape the production of the novel entitled, “Dichan Maichai Sopheni” (Translation: “I am not a prostitute.”) are the American military withdrawal from Thailand; the Thai state’s policies in boosting the growth of tourism sector to compensate the decreasing number of tourists due to the military withdrawal; and the increasing number of female workforce which changes from working in an agricultural sector to an industrial sector due to the National Economic and Social Development Plans of Thailand. These sociocultural factors indirectly shape the production of public discourse such as novels through the sociocultural practice. Although Mia Farang in this novel try to deny that they are a prostitute, the novel still reproduces negative identities of Mia Farang; i.e., being a prostitute, having a hard life, having a failed marriage with Thai men, and being insulted and humiliated.
