Social Development of the Christian Community in Khok Wat Village Khok Pip District, Amphoe Si Mahosot, Prachinburi Province

Abstract

This research has the objective to study social development of the Christian Community in Khok Wat Village, Khok Pip District, Amphoe Si Mahosot, Prachinburi Province. The samples of this study were 9 people, using a specific selection method from the position of function. The tools used for studying and collecting data were interviews and in-depth interviews along with using the historical concept, folklore and anthropology analyzed the information in this work. The research findings were as follows.

1. The social development of Christians was initiated by Pastor Chalantin, who came to spread Christianity and jointly develop the forest area as a community. About a hundred people living in the area are Lao Phuan and Chinese Christians. Factors to the settlement are physical, cultural, and government factors.
2. Ways of life of Christians in the economy society and government were found that there is a career in farming. Most of the pomelo plantations were made, and a few were sold. The land was organized for Christians by renting and paying rent to the temple. There are conditions that cannot be sold but can be inherited in society and important ceremonies.

3. Christian cultural influence with other local cultures in and outside the village of Khok Wat, it is found that Christians have contact with Buddhists by having a kinship relationship, neighborliness, and trade relations. Information technology is used to connect between the old generation and the new generation, too.
