การสร้างความเป็นไทใหญ่แม่ฮ่องสอนผ่านความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์

Abstract

บทคัดย่อ

             การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์และบทบาทของความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ในพุทธศาสนาของไทใหญ่ อิทธิพลของความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ที่มีผลต่อการสร้างความเป็นไทใหญ่ และการสร้างความเป็นไทใหญ่แม่ฮ่องสอนผ่านความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (qualitative reseaech) โดยใช้แนวทางการศึกษาด้วยวิธีการทางประวัติศาสตร์ (historical approach) และนำเสนอในรูปแบบพรรณนาวิเคราะห์

            ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของความเชื่อดั้งเดิมที่ชาวไทใหญ่ยึดถือเป็นหลัก ต่อมารับความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์จากจีนและอินเดียมาปรับใช้และสร้างเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ของไทใหญ่ และพบว่าความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์เป็นความเชื่อที่เติบโตเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของพุทธศาสนา มีอิทธิพลต่อวิถีชีวิตและเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญในการสร้างตัวตนความเป็นไทใหญ่ ทั้งด้านโลกทัศน์ในการดำเนินชีวิต ความคาดหวังและวิธีการจัดการปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น แม้ว่าในปัจจุบันโลกจะมีความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศ แต่ความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ยังคงมีบทบาทอยู่ในชุมชนชาวไทใหญ่ โดยตั้งแต่พุทธศักราช 2530 เป็นต้นมา กระแสท้องถิ่นนิยมได้ขยายตัวอย่างกว้างขวางในประเทศไทย พบว่าความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ได้ถูกนำมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการสร้างและนิยามความเป็นไทใหญ่ของคนไทใหญ่ในพื้นที่จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน เป็นการสร้างและนำเสนอภาพความเป็นไทใหญ่ เพื่อตอบสนองการรื้อฟื้นตัวตนของคนไทใหญ่ รวมถึงตอบสนองการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรม และค่านิยมเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อโหราศาสตร์ในประเทศไทย

 Abstract

 This research aims to study the astrological beliefs of Tai Yai people and their roles in Tai Yai Buddhism, the influence of astrological beliefs on the construction of Tai Yai-ness, as well as the use of astrological beliefs in the construction of Maehongson Tai Yai-ness. It is a qualitative research implementing a historical approach and presented using descriptive analysis.

The result has illustrated that astrological beliefs were part of the traditional beliefs that Tai Yai people adhered to. Later on, Chinese and Indian astrological beliefs were assimilated and adapted to create the characteristics that are unique to Tai Yai astrological beliefs.  It has also been discovered that Tai Yai astrological beliefs have developed and integrated into Tai Yai Buddhism. Astrological beliefs have influenced the way of life of Tai Yai people, and have played a significant role in the construction of the Tai Yai identity, in such aspects as Tai Yai people’s perspectives on life, their expectations, and their ways of dealing with problems. Despite the rapid scientific and technological advances in today’s world, it has been found that astrological beliefs continue to play an important role in the Tai Yai communities. Moreover, it has been discovered that the rise and spread of localism in Thailand since 1987 have resulted in astrological beliefs being used by Tai Yai people in Maehongson in constructing and defining their own Tai Yai-ness. The creation and presentation of Tai Yai-ness are aimed at such purposes as serving Tai Yai people’s need to revive their identity, catering to the trend of cultural tourism, as well as responding to the widespread popularity of astrological beliefs in Thailand.
