Abstract

Abstract

At present, Thai desserts are becoming more popular among both Thai and foreign consumers.However, package designs for these products are still substandard, lacking in Thai identity, and cannot competein the market both at home and abroad. So, in order to upgrade the quality of Thai desserts to the level ofinternational standards, this research had been initiated. The objective of this research was to create graphicdesign guidelines on Thai dessert packages that could reflect local Thai identities, respond to market demandsand portray appropriate characteristics for Thai dessert packages.

This research employed the theory of composition in graphic design on product packages, the theory of graphicdesign on product packages to reflect local identities, and the theory of graphic design to respond to market demandsto analyze data from a sample of Thai dessert packages of community product groups and small and mediumenterprise groups. The theory of identity graphic design was also employed in order to develop a questionnaireto assess opinions of experts concerning appropriate identities for the graphic design on Thai dessert packages.

The research results indicated that when graphic design compositionsfiillustration, color, typography,symbol, and layoutfiwere applied in designing Thai dessert packages with the appropriate characteristics ofelegance (simple, skilful and aesthetic style), the packages could reflect local Thai identities as well as respondto market demands.
