Abstract

Abstract

This research was aimed to study happiness level and factors affecting happiness of higher educationstudents in Pathum Thani province. The research sample consisted of 621 higher education students in PathumThani province, obtained by stratified random sampling. The employed data collecting instrument was aquestionnaire, developed by the researcher, with reliability coefficient of .949. Statistics employed for data analysiswere the frequency, percentage, t-test, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis.

Research findings showed that the higher education studentsû happiness was at the high level, with thespiritual and ethical aspect of happiness receiving the highest rating mean, followed by the aspects of love andsexual relationship, and life satisfaction, respectively. As for factors affecting happiness, it was found that thepsychological factors affected studentsû happiness at the high level, with the factor of self-esteem receiving thehighest rating mean, followed by the factors of emotional control, and self motivation, respectively. Theenvironmental factors also affected studentsû happiness at the high level, with the factor of physical environmentof the educational institute receiving the highest rating mean, followed by the factors of social environment, andfamily atmosphere, respectively.

Regarding comparison results on happiness levels of higher education students classified by personalfactors, it was found that female students were significantly happier than male students at the .01 level; studentsaged 18-19 years were significantly happier than those aged 20 years or over at the .01 level; and those whohad physical exercises for more than 8 hours per week had the highest happiness rating mean which wassignificantly higher than that of those who had physical exercises for 4-8 hours per week at the .01 level.

As for analysis of the factors related to happiness of higher education students, it was found thatmonthly expense, physical exercise behavior, social participation, social environment within the educationalinstitute, physical environment within the educational institute, control and care within the educational institute,atmosphere within the family, and being the important person within the family correlated positively withhappiness of higher education students, with the social environment within the educational institute having thehighest correlation with happiness of higher education students, followed by the physical environment of theeducational institute, and the control and care within the educational institute, respectively.
