Abstract
The study entitled “The Promotion of Question-and-Answer Sermon in Isan Tradition of Monks at Phanom Phrai District, Roi-Et Province” consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the methods of sermon appearing in Buddhist scriptures; 2) to explore the question-and-answer sermon of monks at Phanom Phrai District, Roi-Et Province; and 3) to promote question-and-answer sermon in Isan tradition of monks at Phanom Phrai District, Roi-Et Province. The study applied a qualitative research approach. From the study, the following results are found:
Buddhist dissemination has been based on the Buddha's techniques of dissemination with the geographical environment, social history, customs and tradition of each different region from the Buddha's lifetime until nowadays. Regardless of the approach he utilized, the outcomes were always satisfactory.
The question-and-answer sermon of the Sangha in Phanom Phrai District is also known as Pucchā vissajjanā. The sermon is delivered by more than two monks, one of whom asks questions and the other responds. The sermon is based on fictional characters in the story, thus experienced preachers who are truly skilled at preaching are required.
