Factors Relating to Attitude of Personnel towards Learning Organization of the Faculty of Engineering in a University

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the level of leadership of personnel in Faculty of Engineering in a university, 2) to investigate attitude of personnel towards learning organization of Faculty of Engineering in a university, 3) to compare the attitude of personnel towards learning organization of Faculty of Engineering in a university in relation to demographic variables, 4) to study the correlation between demographic variables , i.e. age, length of employment , number of subordinates, and the attitude of personnel towards learning organization of Faculty of Engineering in a university and 5) to study the relationship between leadership and attitude of personnel towards learning organization of Faculty of Engineering in a university. The participants were 67 supporting personnel of Faculty of Engineering in a university. They were selected by the simple random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire with Cronbach’s alpha coefficent of .958. The statistics used to analyze the data were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one way analysis of variance and pearson product moment correlation. The statistical level of significance was set at .05. The results showed that 1) the personnel had high level of leadership ( = 4.075, S.D. = .447), 2) the personnel’s attitudes towards the learning organization was at high level ( =3.752, S.D. = .429). The hypothesis testing showed that 3) demographic variables, i.e., educational level (F= 3.985, P = .023), family monthly income (F = 6.909, P = .002), and the position (t = -2.252, P = .028) significantly affected personnel’s attitude towards learning organization of Faculty of Engineering, 4) the numbers of subordinates (r = .476, P = .000) significantly correlated with attitude of personnel towards learning organization of the Faculty of Engineering in a university, and 5) the leadership significantly correlated with attitude of personnel towards the learning organization of Faculty of Engineering in a university. (r = .664, P = .000).
