Characteristics of Successful Startup Leadership in Thailand

Abstract

This research focused on characteristics of successful leadership in startup business in Thailand 4.0 era. According to robust changing in how to running business nowadays, entrepreneur had to adjust themselves for high and quick competition climate. Therefore, the startup business get more attention. However, the empirical researches found out that over 75% of startup businesses failed at the first year and continue decreasing in the year after because of the entrepreneur leadership. This figure was supported by the success cases of Thailand startup businesses. There were less than 400 startups in Thailand that were succeeded in doing their businesses. Even though, Thailand Government supported over 10,000 million baht to these entrepreneurs, the success rate was still low. The researchers found out that the 5 key factors affected the leadership including Extraversion, Openness, Planning and System Thinking, Rational and Vision. However, after employed qualitative research by in-depth interviewing 32 people and 7 people focus group, the results showed that 3 factors were cut off including Extraversion, Planning and System Thinking and Rational but another 3 factors were adding up including Perseverance, Learning, and Decisive. In the nutshell, this research concluded that the conceptual framework of successful startup leadership in Thailand was associated with 5 characteristics categories: Perseverance, Keen on learning, Openness, Vision and Decisive.
