The Danger on Public Spaces: The Way to Fix Sexual Harassment in the Victimization of Women on a Bus in Bangkok Metropolitan

In the present, the sexual harassment problem is highly threatened spread over the world observed by the social movement in 2018, “Me Too” from Alisa Milano, an actress of The United States who published this phase as a part of this campaign for awareness of the prevalence of sexual harassment problems, and this phase is inspired by the owner’s such as “Tarana Burke” a social activist and community manager, who want to push the empower to become aware of women African American who had experienced of abuse sex. Which is an important social movement that creates a phenomenon in society around the world and also including Thailand. This article is qualitative research focuses on the element of sexual harassment problem on buses, problems, threatening style, how to solve problems in public transport of Thailand. By data analysis in foreign document obtained from all 6 countries to compare with Thai document which from in-depth interviews of 2 group population. The First group, the female bus users who used to be victims of sexual harassment 13 people and Second group, the officers, administrators of government organizations and NGOs members 10 people, all 25 people. The results of the study were as follows: 1) The cause of the problem of sexual harassment on the bus due to the myth that men are deeply rooted in the culture, social values Thailand. 2) The sexual harassment on public transportation in Thailand often appears by touch, such as molest, etc. 3) The point of view of female user in public transport have the opinion of there has diminished the value of sexuality, his condition as being a weak sex, weaker than males and the public transport area has high risk of crime because of the overcrowding of user.4) The implement to solve a problem of the public organizations and/or non-governmental organization (NGO) both, at present and in the future must have to assure of safety for users and need to give precedence in problem along with collaborations with partnership organizations in various sectors, to eliminate this problem be concreted. Suggestions from this study are the new knowledge that reflects on the development issue of sexual harassment on public transportation in Thailand and can be further developed to study this issue in the future.
