The emergence of generative artificial intelligence tools has opened up new possibilities while posing challenges to the traditional notion of authorship. As a prominent scholarly publisher, the Journal of Population and Social Studies (JPSS) has closely monitored these developments.

At JPSS, we firmly acknowledge that authors bear complete responsibility for the originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscript's content. Consequently, tools such as the AI chatbot ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs) do not meet the criteria for authorship and should not be listed as authors on manuscripts.

While AI can play a role in the writing process, it is widely accepted in scholastic circles that it cannot assume responsibility for the content it generates. Although academic papers may utilize AI technology for assistance, it is essential to declare such usage appropriately when submitting an article to JPSS. In these cases, authors must fully disclose which tools were employed in the "Acknowledgments" section and provide a detailed description of their utilization in the "Materials and Methods" section.

JPSS firmly maintains that authors are entirely accountable for the content of their manuscript, including any portions produced with the aid of AI tools. Consequently, authors are liable for any breaches of publication ethics that may occur.

By adhering to these updated guidelines, JPSS ensures transparency and ethical practice and upholds the integrity of the scholarly publishing process in the face of AI advancements.
