The Effect of Financial Literacy on Thai Government Teachers and Education Personnel towards Debt Problems in Bangkok

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the effect of the Financial Literacy on debts problems of Thai government teachers and education personnel. The Financial Literacy in this study consists of 3 components: Financial Knowledge, Financial Behavior and Financial Attitude. The researchers used questionnaire to collect data on a sample of 235 participants from Thai government teacher and education personnel who registered in debt- reducing program with Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Education Personnel. The statistics for data analysis was Multiple Regression Analysis. The results revealed that the Financial Behavior had a negative effect on the current amount of debts, but the Financial Knowledge and Attitude had no effect on the current amount of debts. This research showed that organizations involved in providing personal financial planning knowledge should use the results to provide financial planning knowledge training guideline as well as set financial policy to solve the teachers' debt problems sustainably in the future.
