Abstract

This research was undertaken to investigate the influence that confidence in Thailand’s public health system and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic have had on them personally have had on the travel intentions of the residents of Trang Province, Thailand. This quantitative research study employed a questionnaire to collect data from 400 people living throughout Trang Province. Random quota sampling was employed to determine the number of respondents from each district. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the data. The results found that the Covid-19 pandemic had a statistically significant negative influence on the participant’s intentions to travel to another province. However, both confidence in Thailand’s public health system and the impacts that the Covid-19 pandemic have had on the participants were found to have statistically significant effects on this relationship. Confidence in Thailand’s public health system was shown to have a mediating effect and the impacts of Covid-19 on the participants were shown to have a moderating effect, on the negative relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic and travel intention. These results provide knowledge and insight into the context of tourism during the Covid-19 pandemic which indicates that people’s confidence in Thailand’s public health system and understanding the impacts of Covid-19 are crucial elements effecting their travel intention. The government sector and related stakeholders must recognize the importance of these factors during the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the ensuing recovery period, and make enhancing and developing their positive effects a priority in the plans they are crafting to revitalize the tourism and service industries and benefit the relevant stakeholders.
