การวิจัยอนาคตในสถานการณ์ที่มีความผันผวนและคาดไม่ถึงเป็นความท้าทายอย่างมากของนักวิจัยโดยทั่วไปการใช้ทฤษฎีใดทฤษฎีหนึ่งหรือการจำลองสถานการณ์แบบง่ายไม่สามารถให้คำตอบที่ถูกต้องหรือเหมาะสมได้ การวิจัยโดยใช้เทคนิคเดลฟายจะช่วยแก้ปัญหาความเชื่อมั่นได้ถ้าดำเนินการวิจัยอย่างรอบคอบ โดยใช้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่เกี่ยวข้องโดยตรง และสรุปผลโดยไม่ลำเอียง วิธีการวิจัยแบบนี้ไม่ใช้สถิติที่ซับซ้อน ใช้เวลา
ไม่มาก และต้นทุนต่ำ บทความวิชาการนี้ ผู้เขียนมุ่งนำเสนอ 1) หลักการและวิธีดำเนินการตามเทคนิคเดลฟาย
2) ตัวอย่างงานวิจัยด้านธุรกิจการบินด้วยเทคนิคเดลฟายที่สามารถนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ได้ต่อไป ผลการศึกษา พบว่า การวิจัยด้วยเทคนิคเดลฟายแบ่งออกได้เป็น 2 รูปแบบ คือ แบบดั้งเดิมและแบบปรับปรุง การวิจัยด้วยเทคนิคนี้เหมาะที่จะนําผลการวิจัยไปใช้ในการวางแผนการตัดสินใจหรือวางแผน การดําเนินการในอนาคต ควรใช้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจํานวน 17 คนขึ้นไปเพื่อลดอัตราความคลาดเคลื่อน องค์ความรู้จากบทความนี้สามารถนำไปใช้ในการหาสารสนเทศจากการสำรวจความคิดเห็นเพื่อใช้กับงานเฉพาะทาง ทั้งงานวิจัยอนาคตและงานวิชาการลักษณะอื่น เนื่องจากการวิจัยโดยใช้เทคนิคเดลฟายเป็นกระบวนการที่นำไปสู่การสำรวจและกลั่นกรองความคิดเห็นแบบมีโครงสร้างที่ดี ทั้งจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญในกลุ่มที่มีความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีต่อกันและที่มีความขัดแย้งกัน
