Trends in Needs of the Job Market and the Desired Attribute of Graduates in Information Management Program

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to: 1) study the labor demand trends of students graduated from the Bachelor of Arts Program in Information Management, Prince of Songkla University, 2) study of graduates’ expectations on knowledge and skills acquired from the Bachelor of Arts Program in Information Management, Prince of Songkla University.

Methodology: Data were collected through documentary analysis, surveys, and interviews.  The data were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics.

Main Findings: 1) the labor market in Thailand have has increasing demand for information professionals, 2) here have been a lower demand for librarians than the demand for workers who apply information management and information technology skills. However, this trend tends to decline in the future, and 3) employers expect their employees in information management to have morality and ethics at the highest level. 

Applications of this study: The results of the study can be used to develop information management courses, and to prepare graduates before entering the labor market.
