Information Use by Secondary School Students in the study process at International School Bangkok

Abstract

This survey research aimed at 1) investigating the high school students’ information use conditions, 2) comparing their information use based on study class levels, and 3) identifying their information use problems. The stratifed random sampling was used to select the research sample of 210 junior high school students and 242 senior high school students. The questionnaire was used as a tool for collecting data which were later analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

The fndings revealed that 1) the high school students at the International School Bangkok used information at the maximum level for their homework, study, and report writing. As for the information sources, they used personal, institutional and electronic sources of information at a high level. Google and Haiku were the
search engines they commonly used for accessing information, 2) the differences of information use by class level of study indicated that the junior high school respondents generally used more information than the senior high ones, and to access information, it was found that the former used much more information
contents, formats, and accessing tools than the latter. However, the latter had established objectives in using information and other pieces of foreign language information more than the former. In addition, no differences in using the information sources and the information updates were reported. 3) The data analysis also indicated that problem of the information use of the high school students of International School Bangkok was found at a minimal level, except that of the information formats which was reported at the moderate level.
