Factors Affecting the Success and the Sustainable Existence of Commercial Art Gallery

Abstract
This qualitative research aimed: 1) to identify the key factors affecting the success and the sustainable existence of commercial art gallery, and 2) to develop a management framework to ensure their long-term viability. Data were collected from seven key informants comprised artists, gallery owners, gallery managers, and stakeholders. Participants were selected through a snowball sampling method, using semi-structured interviews. The data reliability was ensured through triangulation by using data from multiple sources and researchers in order to analyze and interpret the data. The analysis employed interpretative methods and inductive reasoning. The key factors identified as essential for the success and the sustainable existence of commercial art galleries were as follows: 1) internal factors, including identity creation, facility management, exhibition and workshop, curators, facilities and services, marketing communications, and the owners’ confidence and commitment, and 2) external factors, including technological advancements and government support.
