Publication Ethics
The Journal of Music and Performing Arts, Khon Kaen University upholds rigorous publication ethics. Roles and responsibilities are defined for Editors, Authors, and Peer Reviewers as follows.
Roles and Responsibilities of Editors
- Quality and Decision-Making: Evaluate submissions for scholarly quality and decide whether to accept or reject manuscripts for publication.
- Originality: Do not publish manuscripts that have been previously published elsewhere, in order to maintain originality standards.
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of all information related to authors and reviewers throughout the review process.
- Conflicts of Interest: Avoid conflicts of interest involving authors, reviewers, or any parties connected to the editorial process.
- Standards and Format: Ensure that published articles conform to the journal’s standards, formatting, and components.
- Appeals: Provide a channel for author appeals when there is disagreement with an editorial decision.
- Editorial Independence: Act neutrally and prevent any form of interference in the editorial and peer-review process.
- Editor’s Own Work: Editors should not publish their own articles in the journal during their term of office to avoid conflicts of interest.
Roles and Responsibilities of Authors
- Originality and Prior Publication: Confirm that the submitted work is original and has not been published elsewhere.
- Co-Author Consent: Obtain consent from all co-authors (if any) before submission.
- Authorship Integrity: All listed authors must have substantially contributed to the research and manuscript preparation.
- Compliance with Guidelines: Prepare the manuscript in accordance with the journal’s format, structure, and writing requirements.
- Honest Reporting: Report findings truthfully, without data fabrication or falsification, and respect privacy and human rights.
- Proper Citation: Cite all sources appropriately and include them in the references.
- Avoid Redundant/Duplicate Publication: Do not submit the same work to multiple journals or reuse substantial parts of prior work without proper citation (self-plagiarism).
- Funding Acknowledgement: Disclose funding sources supporting the research or scholarly work.
- Conflict of Interest: Declare any potential conflicts of interest at the time of submission.
- Ethics Approval: For studies involving humans or animals, provide ethics committee approval documentation.
- Non-Interference: Do not interfere with the review process or the journal’s operations.
- Finality of Decision: Manuscripts not recommended for publication by peer reviewers are considered rejected and will not be reconsidered.
Roles and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
- Objective Evaluation: Review manuscripts impartially based on the journal’s scholarly criteria, offering evidence-based comments without distortion.
- Expertise: Accept reviews only within their area of expertise, focusing on content quality and depth of analysis.
- Confidentiality: Treat all manuscripts as confidential and do not disclose content to unauthorized parties.
- Constructive Feedback: Provide constructive, scholarly suggestions that help authors improve the work and advance the field.
- Conflict of Interest Disclosure: Inform the editor immediately if there is a potential conflict of interest with the author(s) (e.g., collaboration, personal relationship) that may compromise independence.
- Ethical Concerns: Notify the editor if any part of the manuscript appears plagiarized or infringes copyright.
- Independence: Do not interfere with the editorial process; conduct reviews independently to uphold academic standards.
