Dern Dong: The creation of contemporary Isaan folk music

Abstract

             This creative work received funding and is presented in the 2nd National Academic Presentation Project on Contemporary Performing Arts Creativity, 2022, Institute of Culture and Arts Srinakharinwirot University The 2nd National Contemporary Creative Performance Arts Conference 2022 has two objectives: 1. To study the soundscape (Soundscape) in the Khon Kaen University ecosystem. 2. To create the sound of contemporary Isaan folk music combined with soundscapes through the series "Den Dong"

            Study result number 1: The creator was inspired by the sounds of nature, especially the sounds of various types of birds singing within Khon Kaen University. These sounds show the internal ecosystem of Khon Kaen University which has a rich environment, so there is still this barking sound for us to hear. The creator has observed and listened to many times that the sounds of these birds are similar to music because There are different sound characteristics (Tone and Texture). In addition, the time of birds' singing has various rhythms (Rhythm). The researcher has therefore brought the idea of creating music in the form of soundscape (Soundscape) as a framework. concept of work

            Results of study number 2: The creators went to the area to record bird sounds at 4 time periods, namely sleepy time, beautiful time, afternoon time, and late-night time, which led to the design of the song divided into 4 parts according to the said time. In addition to the recorded sounds, the creator also used Isaan's musical instruments to play along with the sounds of these birds. and used musical instruments to reproduce the sounds of pigeons because they could not be recorded. combined with the creators using synthetic sounds (Synthesizer) so that the song has a complete frequency range and creates an atmosphere for the song.

            However, this creative work is an experimental work that can serve as a base for academics to study, analyze, critique, and be useful in the search for creative works of soundscape music. It is an example and guideline for creating music (Music) combined with soundscape (Soundscape), which is the first work of Isan music. Therefore it is an example to explain the concept. Methods and processes for creating work In addition, it can also be a database for academics to study, analyse, criticize, and be useful in searching for musical creations in the soundscape genre.
