Building ProLAB in Southeast Asia: A francophone research laboratory at the crossroads of innovation, inclusivity, and interdisciplinarity
Main Article Content
Abstract
Faced with major challenges such as the lack of stable funding, inadequate equipment, limited access to large-scale infrastructure and the need to strengthen international collaborations, the ProLAB project aims to establish a regional Francophone research laboratory in Southeast Asia. In a context shaped by the diversification of research strategies and the evolving dynamics of language use, ProLAB seeks to structure an innovative, inclusive, and interdisciplinary research space that fosters the emergence of a dynamic Francophone scientific community. Based on a mixed-methods approach combining questionnaires and interviews conducted with teacher-researchers and institutional representatives in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, countries increasingly open to collaboration with Francophone institutions, the study identified key needs in doctoral support, research infrastructure and academic partnerships. To address these challenges, the project proposes targeted strategies including the creation of modern collaborative spaces, the development of international partnerships and the promotion of scientific output. ProLAB thus stands as a strategic initiative to strengthen Francophone research in Southeast Asia, contributing to scientific dynamism and regional development.
