People’s Political Participation in Local Government in Khon Kaen Municipality

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) study the level of people’s political participation in local government in Khon Kaen Municipality; 2) compare the level of people’s political participation in local government in Khon Kaen Municipality. The sample included 400 participants obtained from 91,650 citizens with the right to vote who lived in Khon Kaen City Municipality area by using Taro Yamane’s sampling technique, and the key informants were 12 Sangkhatikan monks, personnel and citizens in Khon Kaen City Municipality area obtained from purposive sampling technique. Research instruments included a questionnaire and interview form. Statistical methods for data analysis included frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test and f-test and data analysis used the statistical package for the social sciences. For qualitative research, data was analyzed by using contextual content analysis techniques.
Research results showed that
1) A level of people’s political participation in local government in Khon Kaen Municipality was in general at a high level. When considering each aspect, it was found that they were in the order of the highest average to the lowest average. Found that the management had the highest mean (x ̅ = 3.56), followed by news monitoring (x ̅ = 3.55), local regulations (x ̅ = 3.52), and the aspect with the least average was the inspection (x ̅ = 3.50) respectively.
2) Regarding to comparison, it was found that, on average, different educational levels politically participated in local government in Khon Kaen Municipality overall differently with a statistical significance level of 0.05.
