พัฒนาการของโครงสร้างองค์การ: กรณีศึกษา บริษัท การบินไทย จำกัด (มหาชน)

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการโครงสร้างองค์การของบริษัท การบินไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) โดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (qualitative research) เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสาร (documentary research) ประกอบด้วยการค้นคว้าข้อมูลจากเอกสารตามแหล่งต่างๆ ข่าวสาร บทความวิชาการ รายงานประจำปี เพื่อให้ได้ข้อมูลที่มีความหลากหลายและน่าเชื่อถือมากยิ่งขึ้น
ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พัฒนาการโครงสร้างองค์การของบริษัท การบินไทย จำกัด (มหาชน) นับตั้งแต่การก่อตั้งบริษัทฯ ในปี พ.ศ. 2502-2559 ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ระยะ ได้แก่ ระยะที่ 1 ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2502-2533 ช่วงการก่อตั้งบริษัทฯ และเริ่มมีโครงสร้างองค์การอย่างง่าย สายบังคับบัญชาไม่ซับซ้อน ส่วนระยะที่ 2 ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2534-2549 เป็นช่วงเวลาของการดำเนินธุรกิจในฐานะบริษัทมหาชน จำกัด อย่างเต็มตัว โดยระยะนี้บริษัทฯ มีผลประกอบการเติบโตอย่างต่อเนื่อง รวมไปถึงการมีโครงสร้างที่ขยายขนาด การจัดลำดับขั้นสายบังคับบัญชามีความซับซ้อนและมุ่งเน้นระเบียบในการดำเนินงานอย่างเคร่งครัดส่งผลให้โครงสร้างมีลักษณะแบบราชการ ซึ่งลักษณะโครงสร้างองค์การดังกล่าวส่งผลกระทบต่อความอิสระคล่องตัวในการดำเนินงาน และระยะที่ 3 ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2550-2559 บริษัทฯ ประสบปัญหาการขาดทุนอย่างต่อเนื่องและนำไปสู่กระบวนการฟื้นฟูอย่างเร่งด่วนตามแผนปฏิรูปบริษัทฯ ปี พ.ศ. 2558-2560 ทั้งนี้ การเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างองค์การของบริษัทฯ มีความสอดคล้องกับตัวแบบวัฎจักรชีวิต (Life-Cycle Model) ของ Larry Greiner แต่ในขณะเดียวกันตัวแบบนี้ไม่ได้พัฒนาถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงของสิ่งแวดล้อมภายนอก โดยเฉพาะในช่วงปัจจุบันที่บริษัทฯ ต้องเผชิญกับการแข่งขันที่รุนแรง จึงจำเป็นต้องปรับโครงสร้างให้มีความกระชับและคล่องตัวมากขึ้น
