Self-Compassion: The Alternative for Balancing Self-Esteem
This article has the objective to propose the self-compassion and the difference between the self-esteem and self-compassion, derived from the notification stating that creating too much for the self-esteem to the individual has the pros and cons to the quality of life. Self-Esteem is the belief and the perception of individual performance compare with the social global norm to access the individual efficacy. If the acknowledgement is distorted, it will affect not only the individual but also the others, by getting the new alternative, that is creating self-compassion that will lead to make the individual to revise himself and manage with the mistake, the disappointment that may happen in life with mindfulness, and eventually lead to self-development. This idea has been derived from the eastern principal and Buddhist philosophy by Kristin Neff, associate professor from University of Texas at Austin, who develops this approach and will make people understand the meaning and the component of self-compassion, including the fundamental techniques to develop self-compassion, that will balance the life with awareness, learn to understand how life is going in the way it is, reduce the level of self-protection, and lower the pressure to the individual to access or compare himself to be over the social standard, to make people get the better quality of life.
