People’s Opinions on the Operation of the Development Strategic Plan of Tambon Kae Dam, Kae Dam District, Mahasarakham Province

Abstract

This paper aims to study the public opinion on the operation according to the development strategic plan of Kae Dam Tambon Administration Organization, Kae Dam District, Mahasarakham Province. The sample comprised 370 people from the jurisdiction of Kae Dam Tambon Administration Organization, obtained through stratified random sampling, basing on the number of the population in each village. The sample size was determined according to Taro Yamane’s formula. The instrument used was a 5-level rating scale questionnaire with the discrimination power ranging from 0.31 to 0.72 and the total reliability of .96. The statistics employed in the data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test (independent samples) and F-test (one-way ANOVA) were employed in hypothesis testing. The results are as follows: 1. The operation according to the development strategic plan of Kae Dam Tambon Administration Organization, on the whole and by aspect, was in the high level. The aspects were: the infrastructure; life and social quality; education, arts and culture, traditions and local wisdom; natural resources and the environment; politics and administration; and economy. 2. People with different sex, age, and educational level had no difference in their opinion on the operation according to the development strategic plan of Kae Dam Tambon Administration Organization (p > .05). However, the people from different village had a difference in their opinion on the same matter, with statistical significance at the .05 level. 3.The research recommended that people should be promoted to build the conscience of keeping the river and canal clean; learning sources should be promoted to compile and exhibit folk handicrafts for learning in the future; community empowerment with the Sufficiency Economy principles should be promoted; the disabled and the elderly should be promoted to have higher education according to their needs and ability; the people should be promoted to take part in local development; and the people should be promoted to conserve trees, water sources and local wild animals.
