Abstract

This study aimed to (1) examine the stress levels of customer service employees at True Touch Co., Ltd., (2) develop a Buddhist art therapy–based stress reduction program, and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of the program. A quasi-experimental design was employed.
A survey involved 388 customer service employees. Twenty-six eligible participants were purposively selected for the intervention study and allocated by drawing lots to an experimental group and a control group (13 participants each). The research instruments included the Call Center Stress Scale (CCSS-39), developed by the researcher with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.948, and a Buddhist art therapy stress reduction program. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test, and the Mann–Whitney U test, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.

The results showed that (1) the employees’ overall work-related stress was at a moderate level; (2) the Buddhist art therapy program comprised six core activities delivered over two days (12 hours) across four learning phases; and (3) the experimental group’s mean stress score decreased from 3.56 before the program to 2.52 afterward, with a statistically significant within-group difference (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, p = .008). The experimental group also had a significantly lower posttest mean stress score than the control group (2.52 and 3.33, respectively; Mann–Whitney U test, p = .019). Qualitative interviews conducted after the program and at approximately four weeks of follow-up suggested changes in self-awareness and emotional regulation, mindful stress coping, personalized self-care strategies, and interpersonal relationships.
