A Study of the Reading and Spelling Abilities of Prathomsuksa 3 Students in the Thai Language Subject Using Cooperative Learning With the Stad Technique

Abstract

The purpose of this research were: 1) to study the Thai language reading and spelling abilities of Prathomsuksa 3 students using cooperative learning with the STAD technique, 2) to compare the reading and spelling abilities of the students before and after the intervention. The sample group consisted of 28 students from one classroom at Sarasas Witaed Samut Prakan School, enrolled in the second semester of the 2025 academic year, Cluster  sampling. The research instruments included: 1) lesson plans based on the STAD technique, validated by experts, and 2) a 20-word reading and spelling ability test. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and a t-test for dependent samples.

The research findings revealed that: 1. The Thai language reading and spelling abilities of Prathomsuksa 3 students after learning through the STAD technique were at a very good level, accounting for 80.97 percent of the total students. 2. The students' reading and spelling abilities after the intervention were significantly higher than their pre-test scores at the .05 statistical level.
