Developing Potential and Enhancing Students’ 21st Century Learning Skills Through Threefold Training

Abstract

The researcher adopted a mixed methods design to explore the processes of potential development and enhancement of students’ 21st century learning skills, developed model for improving potential and enhancing students’ 21st century learning skills, and present the developed model for improving potential and enhancing students’ 21st century learning skills through Threefold Training. The quantitative data were collected from 42 participants. The qualitative data were collected from 5 key informants using in-depth interviews and were analyzed by using content analysis. The results were 1) The concept of 21st century learning skills was integrated into the Threefold Training in daily activities since its three practical Steps, namely, Sila (morality), Samadhi (concentration), and Panna (insight) play vital roles for youths, provides them moral development in order to live peacefully in society, which is regarded as the most significant goal of learning. Wisdom can be gained through knowledge and thought practice. 2) Developing activities by applying Threefold Training is the process for enhancing conceptual model in intelligence, promoting motivation, and setting goals. The results of designing experiential learning activities consist of 6 major activities. After participating in activities, participants’ knowledge and understanding of 21st century learning skills were considered high. The aspect of teamwork was perceived at the highest level, followed by digital intelligence, occupation skills, and communication skills. The overall satisfaction towards participating in activities was at a high level. The highest means were obtained in the aspect of training, followed by lecturer, knowledge and understanding, and knowledge application. The evaluation of the developed model for enhancing 21st-century learning skills based on the Threefold Training (Sīla, Samādhi, Paññā) by five experts indicated a high level of appropriateness, academic validity, feasibility, and effectiveness. Students who participated in the activities reported positive experiences, demonstrating increased self-awareness, learning engagement, and the ability to apply Buddhist principles in daily life.
