Enhancement of Career Maturity among High School Students Through Career Group Counseling Program

Abstract
The purposes of this research are as follows: (1) to develop a career group counseling program to enhance career maturity, (2) to compare the career maturity experiment group before the experiment, after the experiment, and follow-up, and (3) to compare the career maturity of experimental and control groups before the experiment, after the experiment, and follow-up. The participants consisted of 16 high school students, purposively selected who scored below the 25th percentile, divided into eight participants in the experimental groups and eight in the control group. The instruments used in the research were a career maturity inventory with 32 items with a reliability value of .95 and a career group counseling program to enhance the career maturity of high school students. Statistics used in data analysis include mean, Repeated measures ANOVA and pairwise comparisons. The research results can be summarized as follows: (1) the career group counseling program the researcher created the program twice a week, 60-90 minutes per time, totaling ten sessions. It covered the components of career planning, career exploration, decision-making, and world of work information by applying six theories of group counseling along with the Cognitive Processing Model (CIP Model) and SMART goal-setting techniques; (2) the experimental group that received the career group counseling program had higher significant differences at the .05 in career maturity before the experiment, after the experiment, and follow-up; and (3) the experimental group that received a career group counseling program after the experiment and follow-up were significantly higher the control group at a level of .05. From the research results, the researcher suggests that group career counseling programs can enhance career maturity, but they should have knowledge, understanding, and basic skills in group career counseling to create accuracy and maximum efficiency.
