The Role of Thai Temples in Human Development for Sustainability

Abstract

The problem of unsustainable development, all of these problems are caused by human activities which will focus on Industry, Science and Technology to lead society toward economic prosperity. This has led to social degradation and environmental destruction. People experience a decline in quality of life and become irresponsible. The solution lies in human development   with temples serving as the center of the community and playing a role in human development. Thailand society believes that the monk has knowledgeable more than laity and can be a teacher. The relationship between people in the community and temple, therefore there is a strong relation with everyone's way of life since birth until death.


Sustainable development for human development focus on creating balance in 3 dimensions namely, social, economic, and environmental when all 3 dimensions were balanced. It will lead to sustainable development and this theory has been developed by United Nations organization with specifying it as a factor 5 P’s which use it as a framework for preparing sustainable development goals.


Sustainable development can only be achieved when everyone in society understands their roles and responsibilities in leading their community, society, and nation towards a better and more sustainable future and have more sustainable than in the past development that focuses on increasing productivity and mainly increase income which both causing many problems, Likewise, if people in a society lack virtue and morality, that society will not achieve sustainability. That society will not be sustainable. So the development that will create sustainability. The most important thing is human development with Thai temples being part of the development.
