The Assessment of Performance on Professional Internship of Students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate difficulties and recommendations regarding professional internship of students in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat University. The data collection was conducted using in-depth interviews and document review. The sample group of 30 participants consisted of 24 students and 6 teachers.

The finding revealed that the majority of the 221 students from 151 workplaces received their training in the public, school, and private sectors, respectively. The roles or positions in which students received their training were related to their field of study. The majority of students worked as general administrative and correspondence officers, while law students were more involved in in the law field. In addition, some language students were trained as interpreters, document translators, and teachers.

The issues with professional internships were a lack of skills and work adjustment. Furthermore, the complicated internship procedure and expense also caused the problems. The recommendations toward professional internship students revealed that students should be trained in terms of needed skills for work and a site visit at least once was necessary, and that the professional internship center should improve administrative management with regard to data base management system including contact and necessary information. Moreover, internship objectives should be more focused on the organization or workplace in many aspects, such as internship evaluation, work encouragement, and payment.
