The Export of Thai Processed Shrimps to the European Union

Abstract

The purpose of the comparison study of the export of processed shrimps between Thai, Chinese and Indonesian to the European Union (EU) was to carry out this task, the researcher utilized relevant annual secondary data taken from the period between 2002 to 2011.

Findings were as follows: the Kingdom of Thailand (Thailand) enjoyed a revealed comparative advantage throughout the period between 2002 to 2011. The PRC enjoyed a revealed comparative advantage only in the period between 2005 to 2010, whereas Indonesia enjoyed a revealed comparative advantage from 2004 to 2011. The export value of Thai processed shrimps to the EU had an increase in value of 152.23 million US dollars. This increase was brought about by enhanced real competitive capacity. However, the PRC's value decreased by 8.71 million US dollars with the reason for this decrease being the expansion of the EU market. Finally, Indonesia exhibited an increase in value at 33.17 million US dollars due to being real competitive capacity.
