Ethnoveterinary Medicines for Native Chickens of Ratchaburi Province Prapa Laoisomboon Supatra Junsiripotha Ruangurai Tanchareonrat Faculty of Science and Technology, Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University

Abstract

This qualitative research was conducted by integration of knowledge managementprocess and participatory action research. The study comprised 2 main objectives: 1) to make an analytical collection and synthesis of ethnoveterinary medicines for native chickens, 2) to identify the means to apply the ethnoveterinary knowledge in treatment of the native chickens for local development and driving community economy. They consisted of the local poultry farmers with knowledge and experience in the use of herbs for the prevention and treatment of disease in the native chickens. It is found that the ethnoveterinary remedies of native chickens developed in the local communities of Ratchaburi Province can be categorized into 64 herbal formulas. From all of these, there are 19 items of single herbal formulas and 45 items of compound herbal formulas. With regard to the ways to apply ethnoveterinary knowledge in treatment of the native chickens for local development and driving community economy is to promote the knowledge and understanding of the properties and the wider use of herbs in the native chickens.
