Abstract

The aims of the study on “the Model of Adventure-Tourism Development in Ratchaburi by Using Mountain Bikes” were to (1) investigate the characteristics of adventure-tourism products by using mountain bikes, based on the needs of tourists who made a visit to Ratchaburi, 2) explore the potential of Ratchaburi Province to develop adventure-tourism by using mountain bikes, and 3) propose the model of adventure tourism development in Ratchaburi by using mountain bikes. Qualitative research was employed in the study. The tool was an in-depth interview conducted with a group of thirty-four mountain bike adventurers and forty-five local residents drawn across from public, private and community sectors in the area. Data were analyzed using content analysis.   

The findings revealed that 1) the tourism product developed from mountain bike cycling consisted of the components of the area’s physical attributes, the scenery of the mountain bike cycling routes, and the quality of the routes, 2) Rachaburi had high potential in developing the tourism for mountain bike cycling for a wide range of visitors who like cycling by a mountain bike, from those of beginners to professional athletes. Taken as its strengths, the province was located in a strategic location; it also had spacious area for mountain bike tourism and other outdoor sports; the province already had a local mountain bike members’ network; and lastly, the community members  were willing to welcome guests.
