ปัญหาในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ของนักศึกษาระดับมหาบัณฑิต คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์

Abstract

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความคิดเห็นและข้อเสนอแนะในการแก้ปัญหาการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ของนักศึกษาระดับมหาบัณฑิต คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ และเพื่อเปรียบเทียบความคิดเห็นต่อปัญหาในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ จำแนกตามสถานภาพสมรส สถานภาพการทำงานในขณะที่ทำวิทยานิพนธ์ประสบการณ์การทำงานวิจัยก่อนเข้าศึกษา อายุและสาขาวิชา กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักศึกษาระดับมหาบัณฑิตที่ลงทะเบียนรายวิชาวิทยานิพนธ์ ในภาคการศึกษาที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2549 จำนวน 17 คน และนักศึกษาระดับมหาบัณฑิตที่สำเร็จการศึกษา ประจำปีการศึกษา 2545-2548 จำนวน 64 คน รวมทั้งสิ้น 81 คน เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถาม สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล คือ ค่าความถี่ ค่าร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ทดสอบสมมติฐานโดยการใช้ t-test และ F-test การวิจัยปรากฏผลดังนี้

1. นักศึกษามีความคิดเห็นต่อปัญหาการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ทั้ง 5 ด้าน คือ ด้านคุณลักษณะส่วนตัวและความพร้อมของนักศึกษา, ด้านความรู้ความสามารถทางวิชาการของนักศึกษา, ด้านคุณลักษณะของอาจารย์ที่ปรึกษาวิทยานิพนธ์, ด้านหลักสูตรและการเรียน การสอน และด้านการบริการวิชาการของมหาวิทยาลัย อยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ย 2.67 เรียงลำดับดังนี้ 1) ด้านความรู้ความสามารถทางวิชาการของนักศึกษา มีปัญหาอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ย 3.02 2) ด้านการบริการวิชาการของมหาวิทยาลัย มีปัญหาอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ย 2.72 3) ด้านหลักสูตรและการเรียนการสอน มีปัญหาอยู่ในระดับ ปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ย 2.63 4) ด้านคุณลักษณะส่วนตัวและความพร้อมของนักศึกษา มีปัญหาอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ค่าเฉลี่ย 2.51 และ 5) ด้านคุณลักษณะของอาจารย์ที่ปรึกษาวิทยานิพนธ์มีปัญหาอยู่ในระดับน้อย ค่าเฉลี่ย 2.47

สำหรับข้อเสนอแนะสรุปเป็นประเด็นหลัก ๆ ได้ดังนี้ 1) หอสมุดจอห์นเอฟ เคนเนดี้ ควรเพิ่มจำนวนงานวิจัยและวิทยานิพนธ์ให้เพียงพอ ทันสมัยและครอบคลุมสาขาวิชาต่าง ๆ 2) ในระหว่างที่เรียนรายวิชา อาจารย์ควรให้นักศึกษาได้มีส่วนร่วมในการทำวิจัย เพื่อจะได้มีประสบการณ์ตรงและมีทักษะก่อนลงมือทำวิทยานิพนธ์ของตนเอง 3) นักศึกษาที่ทำวิทยานิพนธ์ไม่เสร็จไม่ควรขอกลับไปปฏิบัติงาน เพราะจะทำให้เวลาการทำวิทยานิพนธ์น้อยลงและการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ไม่ต่อเนื่อง 4) สาขาวิชาควรเพิ่มรายวิชาวิจัยและสถิติเป็นวิชาเลือกในหลักสูตร เพื่อให้นักศึกษาสามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ได้

2. เปรียบเทียบความคิดเห็นต่อปัญหาในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ พบว่า นักศึกษาที่มีตัวแปรต่างกันในด้านอายุ สถานภาพสมรส สถานภาพการทำงานในขณะที่ทำวิทยานิพนธ์ และประสบการณ์ทำงานวิจัยก่อนเข้าศึกษา ตลอดจนสาขาวิชา มีความคิดเห็นต่อปัญหาในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ในภาพรวมไม่แตกต่างกัน

Problems in Conducting Master of Arts Thesis of Graduate Students in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University

The purposes of this research were to study the problems in conducting their thesis of the graduate students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, and their attitudes towards the problems. The sample consisted of 81 graduate students, 17 of whom registered in the thesis course in the academic year of 2006 and 64 had completed their study in the academic year of 2002-2005. Their responses to the questionnaire were collected and analyzed by using frequencies, percentage, means, and standard deviation. T-test and F-test were performed to test the hypothesis. They were as follows:

1. The problems that the graduate students had in conducting their thesis involved students’ characteristics, their academic competence and readiness, the thesis advisors’ personality, curriculum and teaching methods, and the university’s academic service.

2. Overall, the five problems were given a medium level (2.67): the graduate students’ academic competence and performance (= 3.02); the university’s academic service ( = 2.72); curriculum and teaching methods ( = 2.63); student’s characteristics and readiness ( = 2.51) ; and thesis advisors’ personality (2.47).

3. Suggestions from the graduate students were as follows: 1) John F. Kennedy library should provide more up-to-date research and thesis in various fields; 2) teachers should offer students opportunity to take part in their research while they are taking their graduate courses in order to gain direct experience before writing theirs; 3) students should complete their thesis before going back to their regular work to avoid distraction and discontinuity in thesis writing; and 4) in some fields of study, graduate courses relating to research methodology and statistics should be provided in the curriculum to help students prepare themselves for their thesis writing.

4. Differences regarding marital status, working status, research background knowledge, ages and fields of study had no effect on students’ attitudes towards the problems.
